Fanskies mountains are part of mountain range extending the Pamir-Altaï which are less visited by Western travellers. Less than a day by car from Samarkand is needed to go there through the uzbek-tadzhik frontier. The vestiges of Pendjikent (V - VIIth century), one of the most ancient cities of Transoxiane, will be visited.
Pendjikent will be the point of departure.By following the road of the Zerafshan valley in 4x4, you could admire the magnificent nature as well as the welcoming villages around. A caravan of mules will accompany the hikers on their way to the Chimtarga peak (5,840 m) offering an amazing view on the Kouli-Kalon lake. Then, we will go in search of the legenday hospitality of the shepherds who will welcome you with the famous yogurt.

Turkmenistan is a Central Asia country located at the North of the mountain range Kopet-Dag between the Caspian sea and the river Amou-Daria. It has common frontiers with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan at the North and the North-East, with Iran and Afghanistan at the South and the South-East. Karakoum desert is the most significant feature of the country by being the biggest desert in the world (covering 80 % of the area). Most of the mountains of Turkmenistan are inaccessible. The vestiges of the ancient Silk Road are going from Central China up to the Mediterranean coast, going through Turkmenistan .
The country is located in one of the highest seismic regions of the world.
It has a subtropical desert climate and the summers are quite hot.

In the ancient times, three ways of the Silk Road went through Kirghizia territories.
